Abstract

1,260,810. Collapsible boxes. K. EDERER. 22 May, 1970 [27 May, 1969], No. 24822/70. Heading B8P. A carton for cakes comprising a base 1, side and end walls 2, 2<SP>1</SP>, 3, 3<SP>1</SP> connected to the base and two lid members 4, 4<SP>1</SP> connected to the side walls 2, 2<SP>1</SP> respectively, is self-erecting by means of pull-cords 7 each attached to the lid members 4, 4<SP>1</SP> at 8 and passing through lugs 9 on the end wall 3 or 3<SP>1</SP>. The lugs 9 are placed a distance a from the side edges of the end walls 3, 3<SP>1</SP>, equal to the distance c from the points 8 to the other side walls 2, 2<SP>1</SP>, so that the lugs 9 and the points 8 are aligned when the carton is erected. The cord 7 is flat with ends of circular crosssection and notches are formed near points 8 to locate the lugs 9 in the erect condition of the carton. In the embodiment shown, the blank comprises three parts glued together along seam lines 6. The length I of side walls 2, 2<SP>1</SP> is longer than the length L of the base, and the height h of the end walls 3, 3<SP>1</SP> is greater than the width b<SP>1</SP> of the other side walls 2, 2<SP>1</SP>. The edges 12 of the side walls 2, 2<SP>1</SP> may be folded inwardly of the erected carton about crease lines 11 and secured to the end walls 3, 3<SP>1</SP>. In a modification, the blank comprises three portions, the side walls (200, 200<SP>1</SP>) overlapping and being glued to the base (1<SP>1</SP>) and to the end walls (300, 300<SP>1</SP>) in a triangular region adjacent the base, the side edges (21) of the side walls (200, 200<SP>1</SP>) being creased so that they fold inwardly upon erection of the carton.
