Abstract

1,260,566. Lighters. COLIBRI LIGHTERS Ltd. 4 Aug., 1970 [13 Aug., 1969], No. 40434/69. Heading F4F. In a gas fuelled cigarette lighter as in Specification 1,162,907 the plug 28 is rotatably held in a socket 21 by an annular rib 29, and forms a recess which guides the nozzle of a refuelling cartridge 31 into engagement with the valve stem 22, which has a non-circular cross-section and is keyed to the plug, so that rotation of the plug causes adjustment of the plane height, the valve stem protruding through the plug so that refuelling may be performed with the plug in its position on the lighter. The resilience of the material of the plug and of the refuelling cartridge may be sufficient to provide the seal between them, or the seal may be provided by an annular block of synthetic rubber (Fig. 2), or by a barrel-shaped projection (Fig. 3). The valve stem may terminate in a hollow needle with a hole at its end which pierces a membrane in the refuelling cartridge (Fig. 4) or the cartridge nozzle may comprise a sleeve which normally seals a lateral port, but is compressed to allow exit of fuel from the port on engagement with the lighter inlet. The Specification states that the control piece need not be in the form of a plug, nor need it be mounted in the inlet valve socket.
