Abstract

1,260,545. Gas blast switches. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. 4 June, 1969 [13 June, 1968], No. 28178/69. Heading H1N. In a high voltage circuit-breaker having two or more series connected main breaks 22, 24 shunted during the initial opening and final closing movements by resistances 32 and switches 34, the resistances are arranged to be reduced in value during closing. This is achieved by auxiliary switches 50 operated by pistons 55 controlled by a valve V operated in dependence upon the movement of one main contact. In a modification (Fig. 3) a single switch 50 may be used. The circuit-breaker may be of gas-blast type as described in Specification 1,131,402 and may be provided with automatic reclosing gear as described in U.S.A. Specification 2,582,027.
