Abstract

1,258,252. Beams. WALTER HOLME & SONS Ltd. 23 Jan., 1969 [23 Jan., 1968], No. 3518/68. Heading E1W. A composite beam has continuous upper and lower booms 12, 12a with a number of panels therebetween forming a non-continuous web, at least one adjacent pair of panels being spaced apart by at least an upper bridge piece 14, and each panel consisting of an upper batten 11 and a lower batten 11a and flat side members in the form of sheets 10 or lattices 10a, 15, the side members not extending to the top or bottom edge of the upper and lower batten respectively, which edges are set in grooves in the booms. The beam may be arched, and the sheets 10 are of plywood. Cover pieces 16 are employed both at the spaced joints and also at butt joints. The sheets 10 may be nailed and glued to the battens.
