Abstract

1,255,602. Multiple jet burners. A. G. SUTHERLAND Ltd. 30 Dec., 1968 [30 Sept., 1967], No. 44627/67. Heading E4T. An aerated gas burner comprises a plurality of elongate first burner ports arranged in a row with their longitudinal -axes substantially parallel with the longitudinal axis of the row, a plurality of elongate second burner ports 6 arranged at spaced intervals at each side of the row of first burner ports and with their longitudinal axes transverse to the longitudinal axis of the row, and restrictor means 7 adapted to reduce the gas flow rate to the respective end portions of the ports 6 adjacent the edge of the burner top. As shown, successive second burner ports are arranged on opposite sides of the central row, and successive first burner ports are inclined at opposite angles to the longitudinal axis of the row. The geometry of the ports is such that each of the first burner ports extends between the longitudinal axis of one of the second burner ports and the longitudinal axis of the succeeding second burner port, and each first burner port has one end on the longitudinal axis of the central row in line with the longitudinal axis of an adjacent second burner port, with its other end at a point equidistant from the edge as the inner end of the said adjacent second burner port and on the same transverse line as the succeeding second burner port. The burner is of elongated form and comprises three elements, a burner element 1 with the burner ports, a distributer element 2 formed with a hole or holes 5; and a base element 3, the three elements being connected together as shown in Fig. 2 to form the burner body. The restrictor means comprises longitudinally extending baffle plates 7 provided with upwardly projecting spacer pips 9, and the distributer element contains a plurality of rows of longitudinally aligned elongate slots 5. One end of the burner is closed by a sheet metal plate, and at the other end the upper chamber is similarly closed while the lower chamber leads to a Venturi tube. Each elongated first or second burner port may comprise a row of small apertures.
