Abstract
1313721 Gas burners D V GREAVES 16 Nov 1971 [29 April 1971] 12292/71 Heading F4T A neat gas burner of elongated form has a plurality of pinhole main gas outlet ports and, associated with at least some of these ports, stabilizing flame ports arranged to direct stabilizing flames in a direction crossing the direction of issue of gas from the main outlet ports. In the embodiment of Fig. 1 the main outlet ports are formed in an inner body member 5 of stepped inverted-channel section which rests in an outer body member 4 having openings 6 aligned with the ports 12 and the stabilizing ports are formed in cowls 7 stamped out from the outer body member 4 and communicating with the interior of body member 5 via further pinholes 13. In the embodiment shown the stabilizing flames are transverse to the main flames and the stabilizing ports are arranged in pairs with a main port between the mutually facing members of each pair. Alternatively the pairs of stabilizing ports and single ports may be staggered longitudinally of the burner to form a quincunx arrangement. In a further alternative the single main pinholes may be replaced by transverse rows of, e.g. three pinholes. The pinholes 12 and openings 6 may be interchanged or a single pinhole may extend through both body members. The upper surface of the burner may have bevelled ends (Fig. 3, not shown) and may have transfer flame ports therein for lighting adjacent burners. In the embodiment shown in Fig. 5 the body members are of elongate cross-sections and the stabilizing flame ports are formed by embossing single channels on the outer body member 4 and removing the central section at the top of each channel to produce two mutually facing stabilizing flame ports. These ports which emit oblique flames with respect to the direction of main gas issue are arranged in quincunx form with transverse rows of three main ports (Fig. 4, not shown).
