A gas-liquid contact tray in which liquid flows across the tray from a liquid inlet zone 16 'to an overflow weir 12 has rows of apertures 19, each aperture having a major axis aligned with the direction of flow of the liquid and a deflector-member 22 joined to the tray at 24 and 26. The openings in adjacent rows may be staggered as shown or be aligned with each other.
