Abstract

828,655. Contacting liquids with gases. BATAAFSCHE PETROLEUM MAATSCHAPPIJ N.V., DE. Sept. 5, 1957 [Sept. 7, 1956], No. 28074/57. Class 55 (2). A tray for a liquid/gas contact column has three or more parallel elongated zones each having a large number of gas passage openings, one such zone being situated on either side of a median line of the tray and at least one other such zone lying between these zones, and the gas passage openings in adjacent zones being so directed that, in operation, gas passing up through the openings causes liquid on the tray in adjacent zones to flow in opposite directions in the longitudinal direction of the adjacent zones. In the tray shown, six contact zones 9 are provided and curved plates 3 are arranged as shown to deflect liquid from one zone to the next. In a modified tray some of the gas passage openings at the ends of the zones are arranged to direct the liquid from one zone to the next. Liquid may be discharged from tray to tray by the means described in Specifications 764,650 or 802,306.
