Abstract
1,251,391. Pilot burners. RADIATION Ltd. 22 April, 1969 [30 April, 1968], No. 20457/68. Heading F4F. An ignition jet has a main flame orifice 12, a gas supply duct 11, an auxiliary chamber 19 in restrictable communication with the duct 11, and an auxiliary flame orifice 18 leading from the chamber 19 to provide a retention flame for the main flame. A screwed cap 1 tightens against an annular edge 15 of the body portion 3, in which a notch 16 is provided to communicate with the chamber 19 via a flat 5 on the screwed portion of the body 3. Excessive gas flow is initially provided for the retention flame, and this is reduced to the desired flow by screwing down the cap 1, crushing the edge 15, and reducing the notch 16. The ignition jet may be lit by a permanent pilot jet, or by a spark to a point in the region of the retention flame. There may be more than one main flame orifice, and the auxiliary orifice may be annular as shown, or a plurality of such orifices in annular arrangement may be provided. To create greater retention flame in the direction of the main flame, the flat 5 is machined in alignment with the main orifice 12.
