Abstract
1,228,453. Oil burners. MOBIL OIL CORP. 28 Aug., 1968 [28 Aug., 1967], No. 41043/68. Heading F4T. In an oil burner comprising a nozzle 30 mounted at the open end 33 of a chamber 32 and fed with oil and atomizing air via conduits 56 and 21, the atomizing air is derived from a reservoir 15 which receives air from a compressor 10 and which supplies secondary air to the chamber via a conduit 31 containing a valve 34 which controls the pressure in the reservoir 15. The nozzle 30 may be of the siphon type, the atomizing air aspirating the oil from a reservoir 55. The conduit 31 also contains a relief valve 35. The secondary air is given a swirling motion by a slotted diffuser 40. The burner is ignited by an electrode 50 and the resulting flame is detected by a cadmium sulphide photo-electric cell which, on flame failure, de-energizes the compressor 10. The compressor 10 has a round bore housing (18, Fig. 2, not shown), a rotor (19) eccentrically mounted in the bore, and a plurality of vanes (16) driven by the rotor.
