A gas pilot burner which provides a bifurcated flame has opposed side walls 18, 20 connected by a bottom wall, shorter side walls 26, 28 forming therewith air inlets 30 (32), and a central baffle plate 46 formed with oppositely outwardly extending vanes 48, gas under pressure entering inlet pipe 10. A flame rod 15 is disposed alongside the pilot light.
