Abstract

1388036 Ultrasonic atomizers MATSUSHITA ELECTRIC INDUSTRIAL CO Ltd 20 April 1972 [12 Nov 1971 26 April 1971 3 July 1971] 18362/72 Heading F4T A liquid fuel burner has a vibrator 2 for vibrating a member 1 which has an atomizing surface 18, member 1, 2 being mounted by supports 10 in a housing 5, first guiding means 7, 8, 9 arranged to direct air streams having different directions of motion past the surface 18 so that the atomized fuel is mixed with the air and the mixture has a component of motion about an axis defining the general direction of mixture motion, and second guiding means 6a, 6b, 6c for reducing the velocity of the mixture in the direction of the axis and causing the flow to converge towards said axis before being discharged from the housing. The first guide means forms a first air stream R passing through outer swirl blades 8, a second air stream Q passing through inner swirl blades 9 and a third air stream passing undeflected through an annular space between blades 9 and member 1. The fuel is ignited by electrodes. The member 1 is supported at a modal point by, for example struts (22), Figs. 3, 4 (not shown), extending outwards from the member 1 and connected via vibration isolaters (19) to brackets 10 extending inwards from housing S. The fuel duct 15 extends radially into the member 1 at said axial node. The surface 18 may be of soft steel, or preferably of aluminium-coated soft steel or of aluminium or other material presenting a low adhesion with fuel oils.
