Abstract

1366890 Atomisers DECAFIX Ltd 3 Sept 1971 [30 Sept 1970] 46406/70 Heading B2F [Also in Division F4] An atomiser e.g. for fuel oil, has a convergent annular chamber 22 fed with the liquid to be atomised by an outer circumferential ring of axial feed passages 12 and an annular chamber 18 fed with a gas by an inner ring of such passages 13, a deflector member 20 being positioned within the outlets from these chambers and having a diverging part 20a, this member also defining a part of chamber 18. There is a knife edge 23a at the outlet from chamber 22 over which edge the liquid flows to enter the gas stream in the opposite direction to the flow of the gas which is at supersonic velocity and subject to shock waves which atomise the liquid. The gas may be air.
