Abstract

1303266 Gas burner H MAILE and H WOBBERMIN 11 Feb 1970 [11 Feb 1969 28 Feb 1969] 6478/70 Heading F4T In an atmospheric gas burner (Fig. 1), an air supply passage 10 contains a gas supply chamber 12 which has a gas outlet aperture 15 defined by an end 121 of the gas supply chamber and a plane surface 141 which communicates with a conical surface by way of a curved annular surface 142, whereby gas from aperture 15 flows, by the Coanda effect, over the surface 142 and the conical surface and induces air flow through the air supply passage 10. The aperture 15 is adjustable. In another embodiment (Fig. 2), the gas supply chamber 22 is in the form of an annular jacket and gas leaves this chamber via an annular space 25 and flows as a boundary layer over a surface 241 drawing air in at the intake region 13 and mixing with it within a region defined by a Venturi-shaped wall 24. In modifications (Figs. 3 and 4, not shown), annular Venturi-shaped secondary air inlets are provided downstream of the burner bodies 10 and 20. In place of Venturi-shaped inlets, Laval jets may be used to supply secondary air, the amount of which may be controlled. The burner may be controlled by a thermostat or pressure regulator.
