Abstract

1,249,921. High pressure testing of tubes. SCHLOEMANN A.G. March 10, 1969 [April 9, 1968], No. 12436/69. Heading G1S. A rotary press for testing tubes under high internal pressures comprises a main driving shaft 7 journalled in a fixed platen 2 and an axially movable platen 3, the shaft driving testing head carriers 9, 11 provided with tube testing heads 13 which are axially displaceable by stationary cams 15, and a pressure raiser 19 having a differential piston 30 for producing the high testing pressures, the pressure raiser being rotatable with the main shaft. The platen 3 is moved axially by a motor 4 via a rack 6 and a pinion 5, whilst a spur gear 26 secured to the shaft 7 rotates the shaft through a drive (not shown). Couplings 10 transmit the drive from the carrier 9 to the carrier 11 and rollers 14 engaging the cams 15 provide the axial movement of the heads 13 so that the heads engage the opposite ends of a tube to be tested. A cylinder 19a rotates with the shaft 7 and water for filling the tubes under test is conveyed to the heads 13 via a fixed inlet 20, a rotating duct 37 and a bore 40. Water under pressure is fed to the piston through a fixed inlet 21 and a tube 45 so that a high internal pressure is applied to the tube under test by the piston rod 31 acting on the water present in a bore 32 and a conduit 33. The pressure raiser 19 only operates when a tube to be tested is present.
