Abstract

1299781 Mould closing devices BRADLEY & TURTON (INJECTION) Ltd and H PESSOL 19 April 1971 [31 Jan 1970] 4769/70 Heading B5A Mould closing apparatus comprises a longitudinal strut 18 connected to a platen 16 for movement therewith, first fluid operated means 50 arranged to act directly along the longitudinal axis of the strut 18 and operable to displace the platen 16 at least towards a stationary platen 14, second fluid operated means comprising a piston part 42, 44 and a cylinder part 12 through which parts the strut 18 is slidable, one of the parts being stationary and the other movable, and means 24 for releasably coupling the strut 18 and the movable part in preselectable relative positions so as to subject the strut 18 and platen 16 to the action of the second fluid operated means. The mould is closed under light pressure by supplying fluid through passages 51, 52, 54 to the right hand side of the ram 50. For high pressure clamping by means of piston 42, 44 a sleeve 24 is rotated by means of a ram 33 (see Fig. 2, not shown) to bring sets of circumferentially interrupted teeth on the sleeve into alignment with corresponding teeth 22 on the strut 18. The sleeve 24 carries a ring gear 30 meshing with a pinion 36 driven by a rack (34) operated by the ram (33). A toothed stop ring 28 is adjustable in position on the strut 18 and co-operates with the left hand end face of the sleeve 24.
