Abstract

1,014,093. Casting-machines. LOEWY ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Nov. 29, 1963, No. 47237/63. Heading B3F. [Also in Division B5] In an injection moulding machine having two sets of hydraulic means for effecting mould closure, the approach stroke is effected by a fixed piston 24 and a movable cylinder 20 connected to a platen 16 carrying a movable mould part 8, and final closure is effected by a ram 48 and a cylinder 46 by bringing the cylinder 20 into endwise engagement with the ram 48. During the approach stroke tongues 60 on the cylinder 20 slide in grooves 56 in the ram 48. On completion of the approach stroke the cylinder 20 is rotated by hydraulic units 64 (Fig. 5) to bring the tongues 60 into line with corresponding tongues 58 (Fig. 4) on the ram 48 so that operation of the ram 48 will move the cylinder 20, platen 16 and mould part 8. The ram 48 is held against rotation by lugs 68 thereon engaging rods 44 connecting a crosshead 42 to the platen 10. In a modification (not shown), the ram 48 is rotatable instead of the cylinder 20. Alternatively, the tongues 60 may be formed on a separate sleeve which is rotated by the units 64. To assist in separating the mould halves after injection, the rear wall of the platen 10 is provided'with cylinders and pistons (72, 74, in Fig. 3, not shown) acting on crossheads 76 connected by rods 82 to platen 16.
