Abstract

998,665. Injection moulding machines. LOEWY ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Nov. 29, 1963, No. 47236/63. Heading B5A. An injection moulding machine has long stroke hydraulic shifting means 20, 24 for moving a mould M1 towards a fixed mould M, hydraulic power means comprising a piston 10 and cylinder 12 for closing the moulds, and hydraulic separating means 50, 52 for assisting in the separating of the moulds, the separating means being arranged radially outside a reduced end portion 46 of the piston 10 which extends through the rear end of the cylinder 12. The approach movement of the mould M1 is effected by introducing fluid under pressure to the right of pistons 24 which are connected by rods 26 to a fixed platen 2 carrying the mould M. The cylinders 20 have a threaded portion 21 carrying a nut 30 for adjustable connection to a crosshead 14. The nuts 30 have worm teeth 32 engaged by worms 34 on rods 36 which can be rotated through reduction gearing 38 and bevel gears 40. When the moulds are nearly closed the crosshead 14 is locked in position by members adapted to engage in grooves 17 in columns 16. These members (15 in Fig. 4, not shown) are operated by hydraulic cylinders 23. The hydraulic separate means comprises cylinders 50 mounted on a plate 48 secured to the projecting portion 46 of the piston 10, and pistons 52 adapted to bear against the crosshead 14. Ejector means (not shown) within the mould M1 is operated by a double-acting piston 55 and rod 56.
