Abstract
1307865 Injection moulding machines MITSUBISHI PETROCHEMICAL CO Ltd and S MATSUDA 1 July 1970 [11 July 1969] 31898/70 Heading B5A An injection moulding machine comprises an injection plunger 81 operated by a ram 9 in a cylinder 1 connected to a high pressure chamber 4, and means 6 for applying a pressure on the other side of the ram to retract it and make room in an accumulator chamber 11 for a charge of molten plastics material, this charge being injected through a nozzle 17 (Fig. 1) and valve means 16 into a mould 36, 41 by relieving the pressure applied by the means 6. The ram housing 1 and chamber 4 are sealed and filled with gas and oil under pressure. The charge of plastics material is supplied to the chamber 11 by a reciprocable screw 18 in a heating chamber 59. Fig. 2 shows a modified enbodiment in which the mould cavity 35 is enlarged to allow injected material to foam, by reducing the pressure in a chamber 44 of a movable cylinder 39 connected to male mould member 41. Movement of mould member 41 relative to a platen. 42 is limited by adjustable nuts 51, 52 on studs 45. Initial closing of the mould is effected by cylinders 53 which drive the studs 45. Final clamping is effected by pressure fluid introduced into the chamber 44 after locking of the platen 42. This locking is done by means of a split nut 57 operated by cylinders 56 to engage a threaded portion 55 of a shaft 43 fixed to platen 42. The injection nozzle 23 is detachably fitted on a partspherical tip 82 on the injection device. The nozzle has outlet and inlet openings 25, 26 (Fig. 3) closable by valves 27, 28 respectively. The valves are integrally connected by a shaft 24 which is connected to a lever 32 operated by rams 33, 34.
