An extrusion press comprises an axially movable billet container 28, an extrusion die 9 mounted in a holder 10 carried by a rockable lever 11 on an axially slidable and rotatable shaft 7, an intermediate pressure piece 4 carried by a rotatable arm 5 on a hollow shaft 6 surrounding the shaft 7 and a releasable clutch 33, 34 for selectively coupling the two shafts together for simultaneous rotation. The inner shaft 7 is driven by a pinion 32 which is slidable axially for engaging teeth 34 on the end of the hollow shaft. A piston 30 produces axial movement of the inner shaft 7 and hence the die 9.
