Abstract
706,131. Extruding. SIEMENS-SCHUCKERTWERKE-AKT.-GES. Aug. 15. 1951 [Aug. 15, 1950], No. 19295/51. Class 83 (4) In an extrusion press with the mandrel and die arranged co-axially with a ram and a mandrel-holding tube in a receiver which bears against a separate entablature containing the die, the mandrel is so arranged in the holder as to be axially displaceable and may be withdrawn from the press in a direction towards the ram. In a cable sheathing press a hollow mandrel 15 is supported in the steel receiver by a tube 10 held in position in a shrink-fitted jacket 12 by radial arms 11 which divide the chamber into two parts 14, into which the metal to be extruded, e.g. aluminium, is introduced in the form of two preheated half-shells. The mandrel is axially adjustable by means of a pressure screw 16, and the die 20 is laterally adjustable by means of taper headed screws 19. The cable core is fed through a double-walled tube 21. The hollow ram 22 is reciprocated by a hydraulic plunger 23 and is slotted at 24, to form two arms having cross sections similar to those of the chambers 14. The mandrel may be removed, after removal of the tube 21 and screw 16, by a draw-bolt 28 screwed into the end of the mandrel and operated by a hand nut 29, or by coupling said draw-bolt to the ram by a cotter 33.
