Abstract

1,247,885. Thermographic processes. RICOH K.K. Oct. 4, 1968 [Oct. 5, 1967], No. 47236. Heading G2C. Image-bearing films are produced by placing a heat-shrinkable drawn thermoplastic polypropylene, polyethylene or polystyrene film containing or having on at least the surface thereof a surfaceactive agent in an amount sufficient to avoid the deposition of dust thereon, in face-to-face contact with the image-bearing surface of an original to be copied, the image being capable of absorbing infrared radiation to a substantially greater extent than is its background, and exposing the assembly to infrared radiation for a period of time sufficient to cause heat-shrinkage in the areas of the film in contact with the image. The surface active agent may be anionic, cationic, non-ionic and amphoteric, examples of each type are given. The film may have a thickness of 30 to 50Á, and the surface active agent may be applied at 0.05 to 0.05 g/m<SP>2</SP> as a coating at 0.05 to 5.0 parts by weight per 100 parts by weight of the polymer when dispersed throughout the film.
