Abstract

1,156,996. Thermographic transfer processes and original transfer. PITNEY-BOWES Inc. Oct. 18, 1966 [Oct. 23, 1965], No. 46483/66. Headings G2C and G2M. A thermographic transfer process comprising assembling a receptor sheet, a heat-sensitive material containing a heat-transferable layer in contact with the receptor sheet, and an original with infrared transmissive image areas and infrared reflective non-image areas, exposing to infrared radiation to imagewise transfer the transferable layer and produce a positive image on the receptor sheet. The original may be produced by coating a polyester support with a polymeric layer containing a metal (e. g. aluminium or gold) or vacuum depositing the metal on the support and then removing the metal layer in the image areas. The heat-transferable material either contains an infrared absorbing material (e.g. carbon) in the transferable wax layer or in the support.
