Abstract

1426030 Producing electro-photographic materials using strippable layers XEROX CORP 19 Dec 1973 [5 Jan 1973] 58808/73 Heading G2C An electro-photographic material is produced by (a) applying a strippable polymeric or waxy layer to a support, stripping the layer off with any dust trapped thereon and vacuum depositing a photoconductive layer and/or by (b) vacuum depositing a photo-conductive layer on the support, applying a strippable polymeric or waxy layer thereto and then stripping this layer plus any dust before use. Alternatively, strippable layers may be applied before and after vacuum deposition. Polycarbonates, ethylene/vinyl acetate copolymers and petroleum wax are specified as strippable layers and Se or Se/As optionally with Cl or I as specified as photo-conductors. A permanent overcoat may be applied to the photo-conductive layer after stripping off the strippable layer, if present. A release agent, such as nigrosine in alcohol, may be applied to the layer before the strippable layer.
