Abstract
914,864. Electrothermographic copying. KALLE A.G. Feb. 10, 1961 [Feb. 13, 1960], No. 5103/61. Class 98 (2). [Also in Groups VIII and XXXVI] Contact prints of an original are made by reflex exposure to infra-red radiation of a copying material transparent to infra-red and comprising a conducting support carrying a charged electrothermographic layer disposed so that the charged layer is remote from the original, and thereafter developing and fixing the electrostatic image produced. Charging may be effected either before or after applying the copying material to the original. The copying material may be a sheet of paper, cellulose, cellulose ester, polyester, polyamide, or urethane, carbonate or vinyl polymers coated with as electrothermographic layer a mixed polyester of iso- and tere-phthalic acids with ethylene glycol, polystyrene, polyvinyl chloride, chlorinated polyvinyl chloride, polyvinyl acetate or chloride-acetate, vinyl chloride-butadiene copolymers, chlorinated rubber, maleinate resins, ketone resins, phthalate resins, colophony, abietic acid ester of pentaerythritol, coumarone resins, or dimerized abietic acid. Alternatively the copying material may have an identical coating on each face of the support to prevent curling and either face of the material, which when charged bears opposite charges on the two outer layers, may be developed and fixed to form the copy. A suitable powder developer consists of a glass ball carrier and a positivelycharged resin powder formed by melting equal weights of polystyrene and a resin-modified maleic acid resin together with a minor proportion of carbon black and grinding the solidified melt.
