Abstract

977, 681. Electrothermography. KALLE A.G. Jan. 18, 1962 [Jan. 25, 1961], No. 1839/62. Addition to 914,864. Heading G2H. Copies of a master are made by placing the master in contact with a self-supporting electrothermographic foil having no electrically conducting support, charging the foil before or after bring- ing it into contact with the master, exposing the assembly to infra-red radiation directed on to the foil, and thereafter developing and fixing the charge image on the foil. Direct or laterally-reversed negative images are produced depending on which foil face is charged. The foil may be an ethylene glycol-terephthalic acid polyester resin, polyvinyl chloride, chlorinated polyvinyl chloride, an inter - polymer of vinyl chloride with butadiene or vinyl acetate, polyvinyl acetate, or polystyrene and of a thickness of 10 to 150 Á. The developer may a pigmented resin powder formed by grinding the product of melting together equal weights of polystyrene and rosin-modified maleic acid resin and a minor proportion of carbon black. Fixing may be effected by using ethyl acetate vapour.
