Abstract

1,247,303. Suppression of fumes from electro-plating baths. M & T CHEMICALS Inc. Aug. 12, 1969 [Sept. 25, 1968], No. 40328/69. Heading C7B. The production of fumes and mist from an aqueous electro-plating bath, e.g. for deposition of chromium, tin or zinc, is suppressed by including in the bath a blended dispersion of hydrophobic particles having an average particle size of 0À002-100 microns. The hydrophobic particles may be of polymer or copolymer of styrene, butadiene, acrylonitrile, vinyl acetate or vinyl chloride; a polyfluorinated hydrocarbon; polypropylene; diatomaceous earth; silicates, e.g. sodium silicate; insoluble carbonate or carbide; or silica coated with polysiloxane or hydrolyzed dimethyldichloro-silane. The chromium plating bath may contain chromic acid, sulphate, fluosilicate and/or fluoride, and may contain strontium and potassium ions.
