Abstract
1381939 Electro-deposition of zinc E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 28 June 1972 [28 June 1971] 30325/72 Heading C7B An acid zinc plating bath includes as brightener a pyridinium compound where R is -CONH 2 , -CN, -CONHNH 2 , -COOH, or -COOR" R" being an alkyl group having 1-4 carbon atoms; R' is hydrogen, a halogen atom or an alkyl group; X is an alkyl group substituted by Y; Y is -COOH, -COO<SP>-</SP>, -SO 3 H, -SO 3 <SP>-</SP> or -CONH 2 ; and Z<SP>-</SP> is a halide ion or is absent when Y is -COO<SP>-</SP> or -SO<SP>3</SP> - . Examples given include 1-(3-propane-sulphonate) 3-cyano pyridinuim betaine and 1-(2- acetamido) 3-amido pyridinium chloride. The bath may be formed from zinc and ammonuim salts such as sulphates, acetates, chlorides, fluoborates or sulphamates, or from zinc oxide, ammonium hydroxide and the relevant acid. Sodium sulphamate or K 2 SO 4 may be present to increase conductivity.
