Abstract

1358371 Zinc plating bath E I DU PONT DE NEMOURS & CO 29 Sept 1972 [30 Sept 1971] 45132/72 Heading C7B An alkaline cyanide zinc electro-plating bath contains (a) at least one polyethylenimine (MW 600-60, 000) and (b) a quaternary pyridine carboylate of formula: - the weight ratio of (a) to (b) being 10:1 to 1:100, the bath having a cyanide to zinc weight ratio of 0À1 to 3À5:1. In component (b) R is alkyl or alkynyl group each containing up to 4 carbon atoms; a benzyl group; or a benzyl group substituted with at least one halogen atom, cyanide or phenyl group, C 1 -C 4 alkyl or alkoxy group or group of formula: - or an acid addition salt thereof. The bath may comprise 0À005-2 g/l of component (a), 0À005- 10 g/l of component (b) and 5-45 g/l of cyanide, and may also contain polyvinyl or oxidized polyvinyl alcohol. Component (a) may be 1- methyl or 1- benzyl pyridinium 3- carboxylate.
