Abstract

A galvanic bath for bright zinc electroplating comprises an aqs. alkaline soln of Zn ions and in soln. (a) 0.01-5.0 g/1 of a cpd. of formula (I), (II) or (III) R1-CH=CH-R2 (I) R1-NH-CH2R2 (II) (R3)2CHR2 (III) (where R1 is pyridyl opt. monosubstd. by alkyl, OH, alkoxy, amino, Cl or Br; R2 is phenyl opt. monosubstd. by Cl, Br, OH, CH3O or EtO, or dimethoxyphenyl methylenedioxyphenyl or aminoalkylphenyl; R3 is where R4 is H, Cl, Br, alkyl, alkoxy, OH is amino), (b) 0.1-10 g/l of an organic polymer soluble in the bath. Articles are bright zinc plated b making them the cathode in the bath. Used with usual cyanide baths opt. also contg. other usual brightness additives; bright, uniform deposits are obtd.
