Abstract

1,246,354. Control system for vehicles; control of motors. P. J. PLISHNER. 14 Aug., 1969, No. 40628/69. Headings H2H and H2J. A vehicle propelled by electric motors 12 driving wheels 10 is provided with means whereby when the vehicle is travelling at a speed below a predetermined value the motors are supplied by a battery 15 and when the vehicle speed exceeds this value the motors are supplied by a generator 16 driven by a gas turbine 18. The speed of the vehicle is sensed by a tachogenator 17 the signal from which is supplied to a selecting device 14 by way of a changeover switch S1 in position S1b, the device 14 connecting the motors 12 to the battery 15 or to the generator 16 according to the magnitude of the signal. Speed control of the motors 12 is exercised by a device 13 associated with the vehicle accelerator pedal. The fuel for the gas turbine 18 is governed by a feed means 19 in dependence on the output of the generator 16 and when the generator is being driven it may also be arranged to charge the battery 15 by way of relay 20. When the vehicle is stationary the battery may be charged from an external A.C. source. With the switch S1 in position S1a the motors 12 may be coupled to the battery 15 and with the switch in position S1c the motors may be connected to the generator 16.
