Abstract

The propulsion system for road vehicles uses both an internal combustion engine and a battery driven electric motor. The driver selects which power source shall drive the vehicle. A mechanical interlocking system ensures that it is impossible for both motors to be engaged at the same time. Furthermore the vehicle must be stationary before a change from one motor to the other can be made. By incorporating both types of motor in the same vehicle, and using common operating pedals, the advantages of the electric drive in towns and the internal combustion engine on open roads are combined.
