A vehicle, e.g. a locomotive, propelled by at least one alternating current commutator electric motor, receiving current at 16 2/3 or 50 cycles per second, has a driving gear including a hydraulic torque converter. The motor may be provided with a speed limiting device. The motor is fed from a regulating transformer which is adustable in a few coarse voltage stages.
