Abstract

850,073. Control of several D.C. motors. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. July 11, 1957 [July 20, 1956], No. 22541/56. Class 38 (3). Relates to a traction system in which motors M1-M6 are each coupled to separate axles and are connected in three groups, each consisting of two series-connected motors, to be supplied from generator G driven by a diesel engine. Wheel-slip relays WSR1, WSR3, are connected across shunts A1, A2, in equalizer-connections E1, E2, and response of either of these relays causes the generator field regulator FR to be driven in a direction to reduce the tractive effort of the motors. Relays WSR2, WSR4, respond to a higher degree of wheel slip to deenergize the generator field winding Gf and to disconnect the motors. The regulator FR may be of the governor-controlled type for automatically matching the generator output to the available engine horsepower. Operation of either of the relays WSR1, WSR3, causes the energization of an alarm buzzer.
