Abstract
1,242,401. Transformer and reactor windings. BRUCE PEEBLES INDUSTRIES Ltd., and J. G. WATSON. 1 Nov., 1968 [7 Nov., 1967], No. 50617/67. Heading H1T. A disc winding for a power transformer or reactor comprises a plurality of discs 17, 18, 19 wound by means of a conductor whereby coolant duets 21 are formed within discs and not between discs. To this end, the conductor may comprise two strips 11, 12 spaced and insulated (Fig. 2), or a pair of strips spaced and separated by a spacer tape (Fig. 7B, not shown); alternatively the conductor may comprise two stacks of strips, which may be transposed over the length of the conductor, with a cooling duct therebetween (Fig. 5, not shown). The insulation between conductor strips may be a hard thin coating of insulation on individual strips. The means for forming the coolant duct may be preformed with the conductor or may be added later in the form of conventional spacers (Fig. 6, not shown). Additional insulation between discs if required may take the form of pressboard washers. The invention enables in view of the absence of coolant ducts between discs, a high overall series capacitance of the disc winding to be achieved with consequent improved impulsevoltage characteristics.
