Abstract

1,242,402. Cables; transformers. BRUCE PEEBLES INDUSTRIES Ltd., and J. G. WATSON. 29 Oct., 1968 [7 Nov., 1967], No. 50618/67. Headings H1A and H1T. A cable for an electrical winding comprises a longitudinally extending conductor with a surface defining one wall of a coolant duct which is automatically incorporated into the winding as the cable is wound. Stacks 11, 12 of conductors may be spaced to provide a duct 13 between. The stacks may be secured by insulation 14. The insulation may be wound completely round the cable and apertured to give access to the duct or a coolant flow may be arranged along the length of the cable, in which case spacers provided to maintain the width of the duct are shaped to ensure a zig-zag longitudinal flow of coolant. The conductor stacks may be superposed instead of adjacent, Fig. 3, or combinations of superposed and adjacent stacks (Figs. 4 and 5, not shown) may be used. The conductors may be transposed between the various stacks. A tape with a number of small discs secured at intervals over its surface (Fig. 9, not shown) may be wound between conductors to provide a coolant duct between them.
