In an assembly suitable for use in protective arrangements whereby telecommunications installations are protected from interference from power equipment, the assembly includes a telecommunications cable having one or more conductive components 5 disposed along the length of the cable but insulated from the cable cores and including also current supply means arranged to supply to the conductive components a current serving to compensate for outside interference, the conductive components being provided specifically to carry this current, in which assembly the cable cores are screened with respect to the conductive components 5 and the surrounding space. The conductive components may be distributed symmetrically through or disposed concentrically (Fig. 1, not shown) within the layers of bundles of cores. In Figs. 3, 4 (not shown), the cores are disposed in two or more bundles provided with individual screens and the conductive members are disposed either within or outside of the screen. Alternatively as in Fig. 5 (not shown), the conductive components may be evenly distributed around the periphery of a screen enclosing the cores. The cable may further be provided with a magnetic sheath enclosing both the conductive components and the cores. The conductive components may consist of a plurality of single wires twisted together or braided or in strip form. The conductive components may form the primary winding of a reduction transformer with the cores forming the secondary winding and the primary winding may be formed of two or more sections connected in parallel.
