Abstract

1,081,455. Transformers, inductors. LICENTIA PATENT-VERWALTUNGS G.m.b.H. Sept. 20, 1965 [Sept. 21, 1964], No. 39939/65. Heading HIT. A shielding ring arrangement for a transformer &c. comprises stacked shielding rings, each ring comprising a centre insulating carrier, a conductive layer on the carrier, and an outer insulating layer surrounding the conductive layer, the ends, e.g. 48, 50 and 49, 51, of each ring being unjoined so that the conductive layer is discontinuous, and wherein the end of adjacent rings are staggered so that the conductive layer of one ring shields the ends, e.g. 52, 53, of the conductive layer of the next ring. The ends of the rings have sections free from conductive layers to allow for diameter adjustments. The shielding rings may be formed from two lengths of strip, and each length may contain mutually insulated sections of conductive layer, all the ends of the discontinuities in the conductive layer being shielded by the conductive layers of the adjacent rings. The conductive sections, although separated by insulating material, may overlap (Fig. 4, not shown) so that there is no discontinuity of shielding. The staggered ends of the adjacent rings are inter-engaged, as shown in Fig. 8, and the stack of rings are bound to the last turn of the coil to be shielded by insulating tape.
