124,230. Barclay, S. F. Dec. 21, 1917. Stuffing-boxes, substitutes for.-Escape of lubricant from a plain journal bearing is prevented by a screw-threaded bush surrounding the shaft. The bush may be in the form of a lip 2 projecting from the bearing-bush and threaded at 3. In a modification, a perforated disk, screw-threaded internally, is secured to a flange projecting from the bearing-bush. According to the Provisional Specification, a second thread of opposite hand may be provided, either to retain lubricant when the direction of rotation of the shaft is reversed, or to prevent the entry of foreign matter. A screwthread may be formed on the shaft also, or only on the shaft.
