23,681. Bazley, W. H. Nov. 9, 1907, [date applied for under Section 91 of Patents &c. Act, 1907]. Spindle apparatus.-A traveller ring is provided with means for varying the running fit or degree of looseness between it and its support so that the ro tation of the ring can be controlled. The traveller ring 2 has an annular groove 3 which is a running fit upon a flange 4 on an interior support 5 seated in a split bearing or bushing 7 mounted in the ring rail. The support 5, which is preferably non-metallic - and formed of oil-impregnated wood, has a removable section 15, and a screw 9 with a tapered head 9<1> engages the support interiorly at the meeting line of the removable section and the body of the support, so that upon outward movement of the screw the support is expanded into tighter engagement with the traveller ring. Inward moveof the screw permits the ring to contract. Preferably the head of the screw 9 engages an opening in the split band 11 mounted upon an interior flange 12 of the support, so that wear of the support is prevented.
