Lubricating; thrust and end-pressure bearings.- The footstep bearing of a spindle for spinning- machines consists of a a flanged step 3, of gunmetal or other suitable material, loosely fitted in the cylindrical oil-cup 1 fitted in the bottom rail. The step is centrally bored and the bottom is closed by a hardened steel plug 7, on the flat top of which the coned end of the spindle rests. As the spindle rotates, the grit &c. in the step is washed out with the oil through the radial holes 9 into the annular cavity at the bottom of the oil-cup.
