Abstract

26,996. Salzmann, A. Dec. 6. Lubricating; ball bearings for spinning-machinery. A ring is divided and shaped to contain lubricant, which is brought continuously and automatically through holes in the ring to the parts of its surface where friction occurs between the ring and traveller. In the form shown in Fig. 1, the ring is in two parts a, b provided with flanges /, g, respectively, which may have a ring between them and ball-bearings p, q. The lower part b is rotated by the friction of the traveller l at the points of contact t, u, and causes the upper part a to rotate by friction at the flanges f, g, but at a lower speed. The lubricant is introduced at z and is continuously caused to pass through holes o<1>, o<2> directly above the points of contact of the ring and traveller. The rail is in two parts m, n connected together, and a ring d prevents water from reaching the balls when used in wet-spinning frames. To facilitate the introduction of the lubricant, the part a may have no flange, Fig. 2, and can therefore be easily removed and a flanged ring c, which has no contact with the traveller and so rotates slower than the part a, is introduced between the parts a, b to cause the lubricant to pass through the holes o'. The part b rotates faster than the part a, and lubricant passes through the holes o<2>. The parts a, b of the ring are held at four places in the rail by spring-pressed balls p, q, and to secure the rotation of the balls and to prevent the parts a, b from rotating too fast, the part b may be provided with small bulges or the like around a part or the whole of the circumference.
