Channels in vertical-shaft bearings.-Oil is circulated through a bearing for vertical shafts by centrifugal action caused by the rotation of a cup e secured to the shaft a. The oil in the cup is forced into the inclined mouth of a stationary pipe k, and thence up a groove l in the bearing c to an annular groove n, from which it returns to the cup through grooves m in the bearing. Excess of oil passes through an opening o to a passage h. Oil is inserted in the cup e through an opening f and passage g in the frame b, communicating with the passage h, or the oil may be fed into a chamber at the top of the brasses c.
