Abstract

21,833. London, W. J. A. Sept. 25. Channels and reservoirs in vertical-shaft bearings. -Oil is circulated through a bearing for vertical shafts of turbines &c., from a stationary reservoir by a rotary pumping-device. A bush f rotating with the shaft a is provided with a series of helical grooves g, and is closely surrounded by a hood e, which forms a downward extension of the bearing c. The rotation of the bush raises oil from a reservoir d to a pressure' chamber l, from which the oil ascends through the bearing and returns to the reservoir through passages m. A flange i projects into a recess h in the bush f to retain the oil in the reservoir.
