Abstract

1,239,754. Pipe joints. PILLAR ALUMINIUM Ltd. 11 Oct., 1968 [14 Oct., 1967], No. 46953/67. Heading F2G. A metal tube end is sealingly secured in a metal socket or sleeve 12 having a sealing ring 16 seated in an internal annular groove 13 by permanently and locally deforming the sleeve or socket radially inwards short of the socket or sleeve end to produce an annular groove 17 affording a mechanical interlock with a like groove 18 formed in the tube end by deformation of the sleeve. As shown, tube ends 10 and 11 are secured in the opposite ends of the sleeve by interlocking pairs of grooves on each side of a respective sealing ring, said ring being radially compressed by the intermediate portion 14 of the sleeve between each two pairs of grooves. Alternatively, only one pair of interlocking grooves may secure the respective tube end in the sleeve or socket, said grooves being disposed axially inwards or outwards of the sealing ring groove, Fig. 3 (not shown). The metal components may be of aluminium, aluminium alloy, copper, iron or steel. In Fig. 5 (not shown), a pipe end 27 is secured in an enlarged end of a pipe 26 which constitutes a socket, Fig. 4 (not shown), illustrates a tube connector in the form of a T-piece having branch limbs or sockets which may be secured to respective branchpipes as described.
