Abstract

1,189,014. Swivel couplings. WHESSOE Ltd. 26 July, 1968 [27 July, 1967], No. 34509/67. Heading F2G. A coupling comprises a coaxial and relatively rotatable members 1, 3, the member 3 having a flange 3a presenting a first axially directed face, and a connecting member 9 surrounding an end portion of the member 1 and having a flange 9a abutting and secured to the flange 3a and a flange 8 presenting a second axially directed face opposed to the first face, the end portion of the second member having a flange 1a received between the flanges 3a, 8 and presenting axially directed faces spaced from the first and second axially directed faces by first and second rotatable bearing elements 4, 5. As shown, a ball thrust bearing 4 is disposed between the flange 3a of the member 3, which is adapted for welding to a stationary pipe, and the flange 1a secured to the rotatable member 1 and formed with an annular groove receiving balls 5 engaged by a groove in a ring 6 axially adjustable by bolts 7 in the flange 8. Seals 11, 12 and 14 are provided so that the parts 1, 3, 8 and 9 form an oil-filled reservoir.
