Abstract

1,197,512. Pipe couplings. G. HENNLICH, [trading as OTTO HENNLICH]. 15 Aug., 1967 [15 Oct., 1966; 28 Oct., 1966], No. 37366/67. Heading F2G. In a coupling comprising a connection piece 1, a counter connection piece 2, a collar 3, gasket means 1a, 2a and a U-shaped clamp strap 7 of which one arm 11a is longer than the other arm 11b, the strap engages in an annular groove 8 of the piece 2 and respective tangential bores 10 of the collar, and one or both of the bores are arranged in such a manner as to make the passage area of the semicircular or segmental section groove 8 into a cylindrical bore. The shorter arm of the strap traverses the bore extending tangentially to the inner surface of the collar and the groove in the counter connection piece, and the longer arm of the strap is located in the other tangential bore and has a safety catch 12 to prevent complete detachment of the strap As shown, the collar 3 is secured to the connection piece 1 by a wire 4. In a modification, the apertures in the collar and the groove 8 are initially displaced and insertion of the strap 7 draws together the pieces 1, 2 to axially compress between them a gasket. The legs of the strap may be cylindrical or conical in form and the distance between the legs may decrease towards the free ends thereof. The leg 11a may be formed with a recess so that the piece 2 can be withdrawn without complete removal of the strap.
