1,238,073. Abrasive compositions. JAPAX Inc. 27 May, 1968 [17 Oct., 1967; 18 Oct., 1967; 20 Oct., 1967; 23 Oct., 1967; 20 Dec., 1967], No. 25296/68. Heading C4V. [Also in Division C7] In an electrochemical deburring method (see Division C7) the electrolyte contains electrically conductive particles, e.g. of carbon or graphite, and may also contain abrasive particles. The abrasive particles may be magnetically permeable. Specified abrasive particles are of tungsten carbide, titanium carbide, tetraboron carbide, aluminium oxide, silicon carbide or mixtures thereof. Other specified particles comprise silicon carbide and aluminium oxide sintered together with barium ferrite or graphite so that the same particles are abrasive and magnetic or conductive. Magnetostrictive particles and a high frequency magnetic field may be employed whereby the particles expand and contract to promote deburring. These particles may be ferrites or sintered permanent magnetic materials or may comprise magnetic grains and an elastomeric binder so that the particles themselves are elastic. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1,194,649.
