Abstract

955,698. Magnetic structures. KOBANYAI VAS-ES ACELONTODE. May 13, 1960 [May 16, 1959], No. 17006/60. Heading H1H. In a method of making a magnet comprising a material having a hexagonal crystal structure, the material is crushed to a size of 1 to 10 Á and conveyed by a slow flow of compressed oil through a D.C. field to polarise the particles. The powder, with or without a binder, is introduced into a die where an alternating magnetic field is applied to distribute the particles uniformly before they are compressed and, if desired, sintered. A final D.C. magnetising field is applied during the compression. The material may be barium ferrite prepared by milling Fe 2 O 3 and BaCO 3 for 8 hours, heating at 1200‹ C. and milling for 24 hours in a vibrating mill.
