Abstract

123,764. Weyland, J. A. Feb. 28, 1918, [Convention date]. Starting.-In an adjustable valve-gear for starting in either direction by means of compressed air, the engine works on a two-stroke cycle at starting, the exhaust valve then being worked by an additional lever 1<1> carrying an adjustable cam bowl 5<1> and having a lug 13<1> engaging a lug 13 on the exhaust valve lever 1. The cam bowls 5, 5<1> and a corresponding cam bowl on the lever of the compreseed-air starting-valve are brought into action by cams 10, 11 &c. on the shaft 2, the cams being such that the exhaust-valve lever 1<1> is actuated for a longer period than the starting-valve lever. This prevents excessive pressure in the cylinder on the compression strode when normal working begins. The two cams 11 are for starting in opposite directions.
